Sanjay Srivastava, the city police commissioner, announced today that the department has entered a new era of data-driven policing and technological advancements.
Video analysed system, versatile dashboard, intelligent and integrated dashboard, face recognition, case management software, block chain, court management system, and heat mapping are some of the highlights of new technological additions the city police has started working on, according to the city police chief.
Most of such features are part of Tarkash app which the field-staff of city police is already using The app is available on mobile phones of cops. The top cop of city police said the physical books of traffic fines are withdrawn and completely replaced with the paper-less mobile phone based system 12,250 out of 13,500 cops in the city are on Tarkash app, he added
The ‘Dainik’ dash-board allows city police officials to view a heatmap of crime incidents, cop performance for field evaluation, and a variety of other data.
Srivastav stated that the city police department is working with the Gujarat Education Board to develop a curriculum on cyber etiquette and safety.
He claimed that the city police conducted a ‘Nirbhaya survey’ on 40,000 women. According to the results of this survey, there is a need for proper lighting in certain areas, as well as a sufficient number of ladies toilets and a ladies room, as well as legal awareness. The survey also assisted in the identification of several hotspots.
The Police Commissioner said, the city police is going to purchase two boats and electric vehicles to serve the area of Sabarmati Riverfront. He said the city police has set up two one stop crisis centres for women to serve the medical, legal and crime related help at single place.
He stated that the city police department has purchased ten Taser stun guns that can be used to immobilise criminals for a few minutes in order to safely arrest him/her. “Such guns can be used safely, with the exception of the genital and eye portions of the human body,” he said.
