Twenty more Covid-19 patients succumbed in Gujarat on Saturday, even as new cases continued the declining trend.
According to the state health department’s Covid-19 bulletin, the state reported 1,646 Covid-19 cases on Saturday, more than 12% lower than 1,883 cases a day earlier. Ahmedabad city reported 546 cases and Vadodara city 281. The next highest cases were reported in Vadodara rural (90), Surat rural (70), Mehsana (69), Banaskantha (64), and Rajkot city (57). Fourteen persons tested positive in Ahmedabad rural. Botad reported zero cases for the second consecutive day.
The pandemic related death toll rose to 10,795 with 20 more patients breathing their last today as against 14 a day earlier. Five deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, four in Vadodara city, three in Surat city, two in Bharuch and Bhavnagar, and one in Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Panchmahal, and Dahod.
The active Covid-19 cases declined below 16,000 to 15,972 as 3,955 more patients recovered to boost the overall recovery number to 11.87 lakh or 97.80%.
According to the health department, the cumulative vaccination coverage in Gujarat reached 10.09 crore on Saturday with 2.28 lakh more vaccines being administered during the day.
The state government reduced the curfew hours and also eased other restrictions due to the decline in Covid-19 cases from yesterday. Earlier this week, the government also allowed the resumption of physical teaching in schools.
