Slight increase in new Covid-19 cases in Gujarat

After declining for the past many days, new Covid-19 cases in Gujarat rose marginally on Wednesday, state health department data showed.

The state reported 2,560 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, two per cent higher than yesterday’s tally of 2,502. The case tally in Ahmedabad city rose from 928 to 965 and declined from 404 to 296 in Vadodara city. Vadodara (110), Mehsana (106), and Banaskantha (100) reported 100 or more cases. Twenty-one cases were reported in Ahmedabad rural.

The Covid-related death toll went up to 10,740 with 24 more patients succumbing to the Coronavirus. The death toll was 28 a day earlier. Six deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, and three each in Vadodara city, Surat city, and Rajkot rural. Two patients succumbed in Devbhoomi Dwarka, and one in Mehsana, Bhavnagar city, Bharuch, Morbi, Ahmedabad rural, Bhavnagar rural, and Mahisagar.

The active Covid-19 caseload in the state fell to 27,355 from 33,631 a day earlier with 8,812 more patients recovering. The number of patients who have recovered reached 11.70 lakh, accounting for 96.85% of the reported cases.

The cumulative vaccination coverage in the state touched 10.03 crore with 1.37 lakh vaccine doses being administered in the last 24 hours. The number of beneficiaries in the 15-18 age group who have received the first dose of the vaccine reached 28.63 lakh, and those who have received both doses rose to 10.73 lakh.
