In an important milestone, Gujarat crossed the 10-crore vaccination mark on Tuesday, even as new Covid-19 cases declined to just over 2,500, according to the state health department.
The state had launched the Covid-19 vaccination drive on January 16 last year, and it has taken around 13 months to reach the 10 crore milestone. The state’s cumulative vaccination is 10.02 crore, which includes 5.15 crore beneficiaries who have received both doses of the vaccine, 4.70 crore who have received one dose, and 16.35 lakh who have received the precaution dose.
Gujarat is the sixth state in the country to have reached the eight-figure mark. Leading the pack is Uttar Pradesh with 27.18 crore doses, followed by Maharashtra with 15.06 crore, West Bengal with 12.50 crore, Bihar with 11.48 crore, and Madhya Pradesh with 11.14 crore.
New Covid-19 cases in the state fell to 2,502 on Tuesday from 2,909 a day earlier. The case tally fell in Ahmedabad city to 874 from 928 yesterday, followed by Vadodara city with 404 cases. Vadodara rural and Rajkot city reported 142 and 118 cases respectively, while the number was below 100 in all other cities and districts.
The Covid-related death toll went up to 10,716 with the death of 28 more patients as compared with 21 yesterday. Six deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, four in Rajkot rural, three in Vadodara city and Bharuch, two in Surat rural, Mehsana, and Valsad, and one in Bhavnagar city, Morbi, Navsari, Ahmedabad rural, Surendranagar, and Dahod.
The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state declined to 33,631 from 38,644 yesterday with nearly 7,500 recovering in the last 24 hours. So far, 11.61 lakh or 96.32% of patients have recovered from Covid-19.
