Continuing the downward trend, new Covid-19 cases in Gujarat fell below 3,900 on Sunday, the lowest in over a month. There was also a sharp decline in Covid-related deaths.
The state reported 3,897 cases in the last 24 hours, lower by more than a sixth from the previous day’s tally of 4,710. The state had reported 6,097 cases on Friday and 7,606 a day before that, as per health department data.
Ahmedabad city reported 1,263 cases as compared with 1,451 yesterday, followed by Vadodara city with 777 cases. With 203 cases, Vadodara rural was the only other place that reported more than 200 cases. Mehsana reported 187 cases, Surat city 147, Banaskantha 139, Surat rural 137, Kutch 131, and Gandhinagar city 113. Ahmedabad rural reported 25 cases.
The pandemic related death toll increased to 10,667 with 19 deaths, the lowest single-day tally in nearly two weeks. Six deaths were reported in Ahmedabad city, followed by four in Vadodara city, two in Surat rural, and one each in Vadodara rural, Surat city, Rajkot city, Rajkot rural, Bhavnagar city, Ahmedabad rural, and Bhavnagar rural.
The active Covid-19 caseload fell to 44,618 with 10,273 patients recovering in the last 24 hours. So far, 11.44 lakh or 95.39% of Covid-19 patients have recovered.
The vaccination coverage in the state touched 9.96 crore with 60,587 vaccines being administered in the state in the last 24 hours. Offline classes for standards 1 to 9 are set to resume in the state from Monday.
