New Covid-19 cases declined by 20% to just over 6,000 on Friday, falling for the second straight day, health department data showed.
The state reported 6,097 Covid-19 cases on Friday as compared with 7,606 on Thursday and 8,934 a day earlier. Cases fell by more than a third in Ahmedabad city, declining from over 3,100 to 1,985, followed by Vadodara city where cases rose marginally to 1,215.
Vadodara rural reported 297 cases, and Rajkot city (237), Surat city (204), and Gandhinagar city (203) were the only other places with over 200 cases. Forty more persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Ahmedabad rural.
While cases are on a decline, the state continues to report a significant number of Covid-related deaths. On Friday, 35 more patients succumbed to Covid-19, the eighth consecutive day of 30+ deaths, taking the cumulative death toll to 10,614.
While eight patients died in Ahmedabad city, four passed away in Vadodara city and three in Bhavnagar city. Two deaths were reported in Mehsana, Surat rural, Rajkot rural, Bharuch, and Bhavnagar rural, and one death in Vadodara rural, Rajkot city, Surat city, Morbi, Gandhinagar rural, Jamnagar city, Navsari, Valsad, Ahmedabad rural, and Aravalli.
The number of active cases fell further to just over 57,500 with more than 12,100 patients recovering from Covid-19. The cumulative vaccination coverage in the state is nearing the 10 crore mark. On Friday, over 2.34 lakh vaccine doses were administered to take the total to nearly 9.93 crore.
