Covid-19 cases continue to decline in Gujarat, fall below 10,000

Covid-19 cases are continuing to decline in Gujarat with new cases falling below the 10,000 mark on Sunday.

According to the state health department, 9,375 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the state in the last 24 hours as against 11,974 yesterday and 12,131 a day prior to that.

Cases fell from close to 4,000 to 3,582 in Ahmedabad city, while Vadodara city reported 1,598 cases. With 522 cases, Rajkot city was the only other place where more than 500 cases were reported. Vadodara rural reported 413 cases, while Surat city recorded 398 cases. Gandhinagar city reported 304 cases, followed by Patan (276), Rajkot rural (251), Surat rural (244) and Mehsana (200). Ahmedabad rural reported 71 more cases.

The Covid-19 death toll in the state climbed to 10,438 with 30 more deaths in the last 24 hours. Eight patients succumbed in Ahmedabad city, and three each in Vadodara city, Rajkot city, Surat city, Surat rural, and Bharuch. One death was reported in Rajkot rural, Mehsana, Gandhinagar rural, Ahmedabad rural, Jamnagar city, Morbi, and Jamnagar rural.

The active Covid-19 caseload fell further to 91,320 with more than 16,000 patients recovering. So far, more than 10.52 lakh Covid-19 patients have recovered.

Separately, the cumulative vaccination coverage in the state neared 9.77 crore with 88,117 more vaccine doses being administered in the last 24 hours, the state health department said. So far, 26.66 lakh recipients in the 15-18 age group have been given the first dose of the vaccine as against an estimated 36 lakh eligible persons.
