Gujarat reported a sharp jump in Covid-19 related deaths on Friday with as many as 30 patients succumbing to the virus, and over 12,100 new cases being reported, according to the state health department. Separately, the state government extended the night curfew by a week.
The pandemic death toll jumped to 10,375 with the addition of 30 deaths, the highest in a single day since early May. Ahmedabad city reported seven deaths in the last 24 hours, the highest in the state, followed by Rajkot city with four. Vadodara city reported three deaths, while Surat rural, Bhavnagar city, Valsad and Bharuch accounted for two deaths. One death was reported in Surat city, Vadodara rural, Rajkot rural, Jamnagar city, Gandhinagar rural, Panchmahal, Bhavnagar rural, and Mahisagar.
The state reported 12,131 new Covid-19 cases today, as against 12,991 yesterday. Ahmedabad city reported 4,046 cases, followed by Vadodara city with 1,999, Rajkot city 958, and Surat city 628. Vadodara rural reported 518 cases and Surat rural 443 cases. Patan (286), Gandhinagar city (271), Rajkot rural (255), and Kutch (206) reported over 200 cases.
The number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 crossed the 10 lakh mark in the state today with 22,070 patients overcoming the virus. The recovery rate in the state rose to 89.56%.
The cumulative vaccination coverage neared 9.74 crore with 1.94 lakh more vaccines being administered in the last 24 hours.
Separately, the state government extended the night curfew in 27 towns and cities until February 4. The decision to extend the curfew in these cities and towns having a high positivity ratio was taken in the core committee of the state government. The night curfew timings will be from 10 pm to 6 am
