Covid-19 continues downward trend in Gujarat, new cases below 13,000

Covid-19 continued its downward trend in Gujarat with new cases declining below 13,000 on Thursday.

According to the state health department, 12,991 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, nearly 1,800 lower than yesterday when the tally was 14,781. Thursday’s tally is nearly half the record high of 24,485 cases recorded on January 20.

Ahmedabad city reported 4,405 cases today, as against 5,248 a day earlier, while cases came down from over 2,400 to 1,871 in Vadodara city. Rajkot city reported 1,008 cases, while the tally in Surat city was 708, the lowest in many weeks. Vadodara rural reported 524 cases, while Surat rural (386), Gandhinagar city (364) and Mehsana (302) had more than 300 cases. Ahmedabad rural had 96 cases.

The Covid-19 death toll went up by 22 as against 21 a day earlier, with Ahmedabad city reporting seven deaths, and Rajkot city three. Two patients died in Vadodara city, Mehsana, and Bharuch, while one patient passed away in Surat city, Bhavnagar city, Jamnagar city, Valsad, Navsari, and Bhavnagar rural. The cumulative death toll of the pandemic rose to 10,345.

The number of active cases in the state declined to below 1.18 lakh as nearly 23,200 patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The number of persons who have recovered so far exceeds 9.92 crore for a recovery rate of 88.56%.

The cumulative vaccination number rose to 9.72 crore with 2.13 lakh vaccines being administered across age groups in the last 24 hours, as per the health department.
