After declining for two days, new Covid-19 cases in Gujarat jumped by more than a fifth on Tuesday, even as the Covid-related death toll continues to rise sharply.
The state reported 16,608 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, 20% higher than yesterday’s tally of 13,805. The number of persons who had tested positive in the state was 16,617 on Sunday and 23,150 a day before that. The latest tally is lower by a third from the all-time peak of 24,485 reported on January 20.
Ahmedabad city reported 5,303 Covid-19 cases today as against 4,361 yesterday, while cases crossed the 3,000-mark for the first time in Vadodara city. The number of cases was 1,376 in Rajkot city, sharply higher than yesterday’s 889 cases. Surat city ranked fourth in terms of cases with 1,004 cases, about 10% lower than yesterday.
Vadodara rural reported 761 cases, Surat rural 472, Jamnagar city 357, Gandhinagar city 309, and Bhavnagar city 293. Ahmedabad rural recorded 83 cases, while zero cases were reported in Botad.
The Covid-related death toll in the state jumped to 10,302 with 28 more deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the state health department. Ahmedabad city reported the biggest jump with 10 deaths, followed by Surat rural with three. Vadodara city, Surat city, Jamnagar city, and Jamnagar rural reported two deaths each. Mehsana, Navsari, Kheda, Panchmahals, Bhavnagar rural, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Botad reported one death each.
The active caseload in the state declined marginally to 1.34 lakh as more than 17,400 patients recovered from Covid-19 today. So far, 9.48 lakh people have recovered from the Coronavirus. The cumulative vaccination mark crossed 9.67 crore as over 2.43 lakh recipients were administered the vaccines today.
