Gujarat recorded 16,617 fresh cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours ending Sunday evening, according to the state health department bulletin.
This is a 28 per cent drop from the previous day’s count of 23,150. On the other hand, the death toll due to the infection rose from 15 on Saturday to 19 on Sunday, the highest single-day toll in over seven months.
Ahmedabad city witnessed a significant drop in cases from 8,194 on Saturday to 6,191 on Sunday. It accounted for 6 of the 19 deaths during the day. Vadodara city had 2,876 cases, which was slightly higher than the previous day’s count.
Surat city recorded 1,512 cases, down from 1,876 on Saturday. Two patients each in Surat city and rural succumbed to the infection.
Vadodara rural recorded 779 cases, Surat rural 639, Rajkot city 410, Bhavnagar city 399 and Gandhinagar city 398.
All other cities had less than 300 cases.
Valsad recorded 3 deaths, Banaskantha 2, Bhavnagar city, Mehsana, Navsari and Dahod 1 each. The death toll has reached 10,249.
The active caseload of Covid-19 in Gujarat is more than 1.34 lakh.
As many as 11,636 patients recovered from the infection in 24 hours. The current recovery rate in the state is 86.35%.
More than 1.16 lakh persons got the Covid-19 vaccine on Sunday. The cumulative vaccination figure has crossed 9.63 crore.
