Covid-19 cases climbed to another high in Gujarat on Thursday, with more than 24,000 cases being reported in the state.
As many as 24,485 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in the state today, the record highest in a single day yet. The tally was 17% higher than yesterday’s count of 20,966, the previous all-time high, as per the state health department’s Covid-19 bulletin.
The Covid-19 cases in Ahmedabad city soared to another record of 9,837 as against 8,391 yesterday. Ahmedabad city also reported seven deaths in the last 24 hours, accounting for more than half of the state’s 13 deaths. The city had recorded six Covid related deaths yesterday. Surat city reported two deaths, and Jamnagar city, Gandhinagar rural, Rajkot rural, and Kheda one each. The pandemic’s official death toll rose to 10,199.
New Covid-19 cases in Surat city fell to 2,981 today from 3,318 yesterday, while cases jumped to another high of 2,823 in Vadodara from 1,998 yesterday. Rajkot city reported 1,333 cases, up from 1,259 yesterday.
Among others, Surat rural reported 728 cases, while Anand (558), Bhavnagar city (529), and Gandhinagar city (509) recorded over 500 cases. Jamnagar city, Valsad, and Bharuch recorded over 400 cases, while Vadodara rural, Mehsana, and Kutch had 300+ cases. Ahmedabad rural reported 120 cases.
While 10,310 patients recovered from Covid-19, the active caseload in the state surged to over 1.04 lakh from 90,726 yesterday because of the big jump in new cases. So far, 8,86,476 patients have recovered from Covid-19.
More than 2.47 lakh vaccines were administered in the state in the last 24 hours taking the overall vaccination number to 9.58 crore.
