New Covid-19 cases in Gujarat jump to 12,753

New Covid-19 cases in Gujarat went up by more than a quarter on Monday to touch another multi-month high of 12,753, as per the state health department.

The state had reported 10,150 new cases on Sunday, and Monday’s figure, which is the highest since May, shows an increase of more than 25%. The tally is not far behind 14,605 cases reported on April 30 last year, which is the highest in a single day in the state so far.

The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state crossed 70,000, even as nearly 6,000 patients recovered during the day to take the recovery rate to 91.42%.

Ahmedabad city accounted for more than one-third of the state’s Covid-19 cases with 4,340 cases on Monday, followed by Surat which reported 2,955 cases, according to the health department’s daily Covid-19 bulletin. As many as 1,207 persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Vadodara city, while the number was 464 and 461 in Surat rural and Rajkot city respectively.

The two south Gujarat districts of Valsad and Navsari reproed 340 and 300 cases respectively. The tribal-dominated Dangs district was the only one that reported zero new cases today.

Five Covid-19 related deaths took the overall tally to 10,164. Two deaths were reported in Surat rural, and one each in Ahmedabad city, Surat city, and Panchmahals.

The cumulative vaccination in Gujarat crossed 9.50 crore as more than 2.63 lakh vaccines were administered today. This includes over 58,200 recipients in the age group of 15-18 and more than 69,200 individuals who received the precaution dose
