Daily Covid-19 cases in Gujarat jumped by more than 22% on Tuesday, with the steepest rise coming from Ahmedabad city, even as the state government further restricted attendance at various events.
The state reported 7,476 Covid-19 cases today, as against 6,097 cases a day earlier. Ahmedabad city, which had reported 1,893 cases yesterday, reported 2,861 cases today, an increase of more than 50%, according to the state health department’s daily Covid-19 bulletin. Ahmedabad rural reported 42 cases.
Surat city reported 1,988 Covid-19 cases, followed by Vadodara city with 551 and Rajkot city with 244 cases. The number of active Covid-19 cases in the state jumped to 37,238.
Botad, Chhota Udepur, and Patan reported zero Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. No fresh cases of the Omicron variant were reported in the state.
The Covid-19 related death toll went up to 10,133 with one patient dying in Valsad, Surat rural, and Porbandar. More than 3.30 lakh vaccine doses were administered today, taking the cumulative vaccination coverage to 9.38 crore.
Separately, the state government has capped the attendance at all political, social, educational, cultural, and religious programmes, as well as weddings at 150. So far, 400 persons were allowed at such events. The decision to cap the attendance was taken at the core committee meeting today and comes in the wake of rising Covid-19 cases.
