The vehicle owners will be permitted to keep their old vehicle number when scraping or selling the vehicles in the state.
Purnesh Modi, the Minister of Transport, stated today that after considering the demands of applicants, Gujarat has decided to implement vehicle number retention policy after Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. According to the policy, vehicle owners will be able to keep their vehicle number for a second time.
In case of transfer of vehicles, the retained number will be allocated to the newly bought vehicle and the new number will be allocated to the old vehicle which has undergone transfer of ownership In case of scrapping, the retained number will be allocated to the newly bought vehicle and another number will be given to the old vehicle being scrapped
The vehicle owner can only keep the number of new vehicles he has purchased; it is not possible to keep the number of old vehicles. The vehicle whose number is to be retained, also the vehicle on which the number is to be retained, must be owned by the same person. For the vehicle’s number to be retained, the owner must have owned it for at least one year. Both vehicles should be of the same type.
Within 15 days, the process of allocating the retained number to the new vehicle should be completed.
Fees will be similar to those set forth in the fee for choice numbers. For two-wheelers, the golden number will cost Rs 8000, the silver number Rs 3500, and the other numbers will cost Rs 2000. The fees for other vehicles will be Rs 40,000 for golden numbers, Rs 15000 for silver numbers, and a minimum of Rs 8000 for other numbers.
