Gujarat reported more than 6,000 Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Monday, albeit case were slightly lower than the previous day.
The state began the new week with 6,097 cases, compared with 6,275 cases a day earlier. The active caseload in the state jumped to 32,469, of whom 29 patients are on ventilator.
Ahmedabad city continued to report the maximum number of cases in the state, but daily cases fell sharply in Ahmedabad city from 2,487 to 1,893, according to health department’s daily Covid-19 bulletin.
Surat city reported 1,778 Covid-19 cases, followed by Vadodara city with 410 cases, Valsad with 251, Rajkot city with 191 and Gandhinagar city with 131. Ahmedabad rural reported 30 new cases.
Dangs and Porbandar were the only districts which recorded zero Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Two more deaths, one each in Surat and Rajkot districts, took the Covid-19 related toll to 10,030.
The state also recorded 28 more cases of Omicron variant, with nine cases in Vadodara city, five each in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities, and four in Anand. The overall Omicron tally in the state has gone up to 264 of whom 223 patients have already been discharged.
More than 3.82 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered in the state on Monday as of 5:00 pm. The drive to administer the precaution doses to healthcare workers and other recipients aged 60 and above also kicked off in the state today. According to health department, more than 1.50 lakh such doses were administered today.
More than 19.26 lakh recipients in the age group of 15-18, for whom the vaccination kicked off last Monday, have received the vaccine so far.
