The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) delineated three micro-containment zones on Friday for the first time in over a month, amid the rising threat of a new covid variant ,Omicron. As per Officials on Thursday, eight houses with 28 residents in the city’s northwest and west zones were demarcated as two micro-containment zones, while five more houses with 17 residents in the west zone were added to the list on Friday.
For the past few days, Gujarat has seen an increase in the number of covid cases. On Thursday, the civic body in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city designated two areas as micro-containment zones.
On Friday, Gujarat reported 98 COVID-19 cases, including 13 with the new Omicron variant, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 8,29,003, with three deaths bringing the total to 10,111, according to a state health department official.
According to him, the state’s Omicron tally now stands at 43, with seven of them having been discharged. So far, 8,18,198 people have been discharged, including 69 on Friday, leaving the state with a total of 694 active patients, eight of whom are critically ill, according to the official.
“Ahmedabad led the way with 32 new cases, followed by 18 in Surat, seven in Rajkot, and six in Kutch,” he said.
According to the state health department, seven new Omicron cases were reported in Vadodara city, two in Ahmedabad city, three in Kheda, and one in Anand district. The variant has been discovered in people who have travelled to the United Kingdom, Tanzania, Zambia, and Nigeria, as well as contacts of some positive cases, according to the report, which also noted that one new case in Kheda has no travel history.
The active tally in neighbouring Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, was three, with 10,663 cases, 10,656 recoveries, and four deaths so far.
