On Thursday, the nation’s first 5G tech trials for rural broadband connectivity began in Gujarat’s Ajol Village.
The base transceiver station (BTS) was established 17 kilometres away in the Gandhinagar district of Unava.
The trial team included representatives from the Department of Telecom, Gujarat DoT LSA team, DDGs Ajatshatru Somani, Roshan Lal Meena, Directors Sumit Mishra and Vikas Dadhich, and technical teams from Vodafone Idea and Nokia.
Official download and upload speeds were 105.47 Mbps and 58.77 Mbps, respectively.
On November 19, the DoT team tested 5G internet speeds at the Mahatma Mandir 5G site in Gandhinagar city, where internet speeds reached 1.5Gbps, more than 100 times faster than what 4G is capable of, and the test was performed in non-standalone 5G mode.
The network is intended for use in a variety of technologies, including 360-degree VR content playback and a VR-connected classroom where children can experience school and interact with teachers while remaining at home.
Other applications include 5G-powered immersive gaming, AI-assisted real-time video streaming via 360-degree cameras, educational VR experiences, and so on.
