The state’s police director general, Ashish Bhatia, has ordered baggage scanners to be implemented at all major railway stations. In addition, the state’s top cop urged the railways to erect concrete or wire fencing around major stations. These suggestions were made at a state-level security for railways meeting between Gujarat Police and Railway Police (SLSCR). The meeting took place at stations where a terrorist attack had been suspected.
All stations should have CCTV cameras and baggage scanners, according to the DG.
Any passenger attempting to use the station’s baggage should be thoroughly examined.
To prevent unwanted visitors from entering, the station perimeters were also decided to be enclosed in the same way that airports are.
Furthermore, it was suggested that a check point with a small machine gun, as well as teams of sniffer dogs, be set up at stations around the clock.
The DGP also suggested that the state police and the Railway Police take steps to prevent trains from being used to transport drugs. Railways and state police should collaborate to develop a disaster prevention strategy for major stations in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Palanpur, Godhra, and other cities, according to the DGP. Bhatia also suggested that the intelligence service be pushed to improve surveillance at train stations.
