On Saturday, December 18, Justice (retired) Girish Thakorlal Nanavati, who headed commissions investigating the 2002 Gujarat riots and the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, passed away. He lived in Ahmedabad and was 86 years old.
Since 1958, Justice Nanavati has practised law in the Bombay High Court. In July 1979, he was appointed as a permanent judge in the Gujarat High Court, almost 21 years later. He was transferred to the Orissa High Court in 1993.
