The metro train connecting Ahmedabad’s east and west will be operational in June 2022. Metro Rail employees work towards this 24 hours a day, seven days a week. According to information provided by the government in the Lok Sabha, the first phase of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail project is 80% complete, while the second phase is 6.50% complete. A Union government minister told the Lok Sabha that the second phase of the Metro will open in December 2023.
In the Lok Sabha, the government informed about the operation of Metro in Ahmedabad and Surat in Gujarat is going on in full swing. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Kaushal Kishore presented information about the progress of Metro Rail operation, including information on Ahmedabad and Surat. Phase-I and Phase-II operations are currently underway in Ahmedabad. Besides, operation of metro rail has also been started in Surat.
Phase-1 work in Ahmedabad is 80.50 per cent complete, so that now Phase-1 metro rail will be running by June 2022. While the operation of Phase-2 is still 6.50 per cent complete, so that the Metro of Phase-2 will start running in December 2023.
The government said in the question and answer session of the Lok Sabha, “That the operation of Metro in Surat including Ahmedabad is in progress, but the operation of Metro in Surat is still only 3.45 per cent complete, so there is a possibility that Metro will start running in Surat in March 2024”.
From Apparel Park to Shahpur, a 6.6-kilometer underground route has been created. Underground stations will be built at Kankaria East, Kalupur Station, Ghee Kanta, and Shahpur Station. The work of digging a tunnel beneath the ground has now been completed. The tracks have also been paved, and the finishing touches are being applied.
The Sabarmati River will be crossed by the Metro Bridge, which is currently under construction. The bridge, which is 298 metres long and weighs 1,050 tonnes of steel, is state-of-the-art. Concrete is used in the amount of 5500 cubic metres. This bridge is supported by six pillars. The pillars range in height from 38.2 to 43.8 metres. This bridge connects Ahmedabad’s east and west sides. At the moment, the operation of Ahmedabad’s Metro Rail is getting a final polish.
