On Monday, India reported another case of the Omicron variant of Covid 19 after a 42-year-old man from Gujarat who had recently returned from South Africa tested positive for Omicron, making him the first such case from Surat and the fourth in Gujarat.
According to reports, the Omicron patient is a Surat businessman who arrived from South Africa on December 3.
“On December 3, he arrived in Delhi from South Africa via Kenya and Abu Dhabi. He had a coronavirus test that came back negative “Ashish Naik, deputy Municipal Commissioner for Health, stated.
On December 4, he tested negative once more.
“On December 8, he tested positive for coronavirus after being hospitalised briefly for isolation here, and we sent his sample for genome sequencing. On Monday, he was found to have the Omicron variant “Naik stated.
The patient is being treated in home isolation, according to the official, who also stated that all of his relatives and the four co-passengers tested negative for coronavirus.
Previously, three cases of Omicron variant infection in Jamnagar, Gujarat, were reported, including a 72-year-old NRI man who had returned from Zimbabwe, his wife, and brother-in-law.
On Monday, Maharashtra reported two more fully vaccinated people infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19, both of whom had previously visited Dubai. As per report, the number of Omicron cases in India increased to 41 on Monday due to new cases in Maharashtra and Gujarat. This follows the reports of the first Omicron cases in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
With this, Omicron has been detected in Maharashtra (20), Rajasthan (9), Karnataka (3), Gujarat (4), Kerala (1) and Andhra Pradesh (1) and Union Territories of Delhi (2) and Chandigarh (1).
