As people become more reliant on technology, incidences of cyber fraud are on the rise. While many people have been victims of credit card or OTP fraud, a cyber crime has recently occurred in the city, which has caused many to consider. A transaction of Rs 1.95 lakh was conducted without OTP from a person’s credit card in Krishnanagar, leading the victim of cyber crime to file a police report.
According to details of a cyber fraud revealed by the bank, Suresh Asuda, 36, a resident of the city’s Krishnanagar Housing Board, had a Kotak Mahindra Bank credit card. They utilised these credit cards to pay for gas and make online credit card purchases. He goes home at night and turns off his phone after 10 p.m., though his father received a call from Kotak Mahindra Technical on July 28, 2020.
The card had 1.95 lakh withdrawn from it. The caller claimed to be speaking from the bank. Following this, a bank employee informed Sureshbhai that a transaction of Rs 1.95 lakh had been made from his credit card, which he inquired about and asked him to report to the nearest police station. Sureshbhai checked his phone and mail a few minutes later and discovered four transactions on his credit card.
Sureshbhai reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation. However, he was unable to withdraw Rs 85,000 because his account had been frozen by the bank. He eventually filed a complaint with the police after being asked by the bank to do so. The unique aspect of this case is that his phone was turned off and the OTP did not arrive.
