On Tuesday, a one-month-old baby girl was found dead at the Sabarmati riverfront in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad district. Police have filed a murder charge in the case.
Police control room received the news on July 27 that the body of a newborn baby girl had been found near Jamalpur Bridge. The people who first saw the body thought it was a doll that had been thrown into the river by a child.
The Sabarmati Riverfront West police station initially filed an accidental death report. The samples were sent to the FSL so that the exact cause of death could be determined.
The child was around four weeks old, according to the examination. Cops also sent water samples from the location where the girl was found, in addition to the samples from the child’s body, to aid FSL in the investigation.
The cops are yet to make a headway in the case. As per a police official associated with the case, an FIR has been filed as it is clear that someone had thrown the child in the water alive which had resulted in her death.
Meanwhile, cops in Ahmedabad and the surrounding areas have begun searching through birth records to find the child’s family. “The FSL report confirmed the child died due to drowning,” Sabarmati riverfront west PI VM Desai said. A formal complaint has been filed, and further investigation is ongoing.”
