The Union Health Ministry has confirmed two Omicron cases in the country, both from Karnataka.
With more than half of active Cvid19 cases coming from the neighbouring states of Karnataka and Maharashtra, improving testing and vaccination is essential.
According to Lav Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry, the entire world is under threat because Europe accounts for roughly 70% of Covid19 cases.
Only 3.1 percent of the world’s cases have been reported in South-East Asian countries, including India, compared to Europe. In total, 373 Omicron cases have been reported from 29 different countries.
By the end of November, India’s ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ (knocking on every door) vaccination campaign had increased second dose vaccination by 11.7 percent. Simultaneously, the campaign has resulted in a 5.9 percent increase in first-dose vaccination..
The states have been advised to increase testing and vaccination in order to reduce the possibility of an Omicron wave.
