IIT Gandhinagar announces Winter Admissions to PG Programmes for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN), one of India’s leading and most globalised educational institutions, for the first time is introducing winter admissions, starting in January, for international students to its postgraduate programmes in Engineering, Science, and Humanities & Social Sciences.

So far, international admissions were limited to the first semester, which started in July. However, because of different graduation deadlines in other parts of the world, the Institute decided this year to create an additional opportunity for international students to seek admission during the second semester, which starts on January 4, 2022.

International students may apply online to degree-granting postgraduate programs across several disciplines through its PG international admissions portal:

https://iitgn.ac.in/admissions/international_student/. The Institute offers PhD and MTech degrees in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Earth System Science, Materials Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering; PhD and MSc degrees in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Cognitive Science; PhD in Humanities and Social Sciences; and MA in Society and Culture. The last date to apply in these programmes is December 10, 2021.

Apart from providing exceptional opportunities to study, perform cutting-edge interdisciplinary research, and undertake innovative project work, the Institute offers multiple scholarships and financial aid for international students, including fully paid PhD fellowships, international student fellowships, tuition awards, tuition fee waivers, and travel awards.

Special scholarships are also available for students from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries.

IITGN’s international education programmes reflect the institute’s vision and commitment to providing high quality education without geographical boundaries, enhancing the diversity of its student body and forming strategic partnerships around the world. This echoes in the experiences shared by some of the international students and alumni of IITGN.

Sevgi Demiroglu, a resident of Turkey and one of the international alumni of IITGN’s MA programme, says, “IITGN provided me with a safe and friendly environment to pursue my studies, and its interdisciplinary nature has enhanced my skills and knowledge to be much better in my field.”

Kinley Mehra, a PhD student in Cognitive Science from the USA, says, “IITGN has opened my mind to new ways of thinking. It has taught me how to critically analyse ideas I had previously taken for granted.”

The Institute was ranked 7 th in India and among the top 800 globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022. The Institute is reputed for its innovative curriculum, cutting-edge research, world-class faculty, and state-of-the-art infrastructure & research facilities in the 400-acre lush campus.

Many of IITGN’s faculty come from some of the world’s leading institutions, such as Cambridge, Harvard, MIT, Max Planck, Imperial College, among others. Almost 85% of faculty have overseas PhD or postdoc experience.

The Institute is highly interdisciplinary and nearly 10% of faculty at the Institute hold multidisciplinary appointments, and about 13% of all research publications are multidisciplinary.
