The Gujarat government is considering the withdrawal of restrictions imposed in view of the Covid-19 pandemic, chief minister Bhupendra Patel has said.
Patel, who took over as the chief minister in September, made the comment while addressing a get together of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in Ahmedabad on Monday evening.
“The number of Covid-19 cases has declined, and the pandemic situation has improved. The state government is considering removing the restrictions that were imposed because of the pandemic,” he said.
Daily Covid-19 cases went up in the state after Diwali and touched multi-month highs, but have started declining again. On Monday, the state reported 25 cases, while the tally was 22 the day before. The government also announced the reopening of physical classes for standards 1-5 citing the improved pandemic situation.
The CM assured the gathering of industry representatives from Ahmedabad and Gujarat that the government is committed to ensuring that rules and regulations do not prove to be obstacles in running a business.
“The government is aware of the problems faced by businesses, and will make all attempts to address them,” he said.
The chief minister lauded businesses and other sections of the society for their role in ensuring assistance to the people at large during the pandemic and supporting the state government’s efforts.
