Daily Covid-19 cases fall by more than two-thirds in Ahmedabad city

Ahmedabad: Covid-19 cases fell sharply in Ahmedabad on Thursday, with the count falling by more than two-thirds from 28 a day earlier to nine.

Gujarat reported 44 Covid-19 cases on Thursday evening as against 54 a day earlier and 35 the day before that, as per the health department’s daily Covid-19 bulletin.

In Ahmedabad city, nine cases were reported, sharply lower than 28 cases on Wednesday and 18 on Tuesday. Ahmedabad’s share in the state’s cases was just over 20% compared with more than 50% on the three previous days.

Eight new cases were reported in Vadodara city, and six in Surat city. Four cases were reported in Kutch, and three in Jamnagar city, Vadodara district, and Valsad. Two cases came to light in Rajkot city and Surat district, and one case in Bharuch, Gandhinagar city, Bhavnagar city, and Navsari. Zero cases were reported in the Ahmedabad district.

The increase in daily Covid-19 cases in the past few days pushed the number of active cases to 312, the highest level in nearly four months. Six of these patients are on ventilators, and the rest are stable.

More than 4.97 lakh vaccines were administered on Thursday, taking the total to 7.62 crore. As per Co-WIN dashboard, 3.09 crore people in the state have been fully vaccinated, while 1.44 crore have received one dose. In Ahmedabad, the number of fully vaccinated persons is nearing 29 lakh, while 18.33 lakh have received one dose. Authorities are trying to speed up the pace of vaccination.
