On Wednesday, municipal councillors from Ward 1 in Vadodara, corporation officials, and a police force arrived at the Chhani canal region after receiving word that medical waste had been deposited in large quantities at the site. Local councillors have demanded harsh punishment for the perpetrators and have directed staff to remove the rubbish as early as possible.
Medical waste was discovered thrown near the TP 13 Chhani canal region, according to reports. Local election ward 1 councillor Jaha Desai, Pushpa Vaghela, and Harish Patel visited the site on Wednesday to inspect the trash. They called the AMC’s Ward officer for a visit and issued orders to remove it immediately after noticing the health concern.
“We suspect that 17 trucks deposited trash here, posing a health risk to those who live nearby and drink water from the neighbouring Narmada canal. Because the waste is placed right near to the canal, the pungent odour makes morning walkers uncomfortable. We contacted the appropriate officials and the police and instructed them to remove the waste and pursue legal action against those guilty. We also urge that CCTV cameras be installed in the area to avoid future criminal activity “Ward 1 councillor Jaha Desai remarked.
The health department has taken serious note of the incident and will take action against those responsible.” We are attempting to obtain information about the waste dumped there by some pharma company or chemist. There is a proper bio-waste facility for hospitals, so it could be from some companies. Some of the bottles are sealed, and it appears expired drugs are dumped here, which is a wrong way to discard as it poses a serious health issue due to the nearby canal. We have informed the health department and will take appropriate action against those involved, according to Dr. Rajesh Shah, Chairman of the VMSS Health Committee.
