Gujarat reported 54 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, as compared with 35 cases a day earlier, translating into an increase of more than 50%. Similarly, Ahmedabad city reported 28 new cases, as against 18 cases yesterday. This was also the third day when the city accounted for more than half of the state’s cases.

Gujarat’s tally of 54 cases is also the highest since July 9 when the state had reported 56 cases. In the case of Ahmedabad, the caseload of 28 is the highest since June 23, when the city had reported 29 cases, an analysis of health department data shows.

Surat and Vadodara cities reported four cases on Wednesday, and Surat and Vadodara districts three cases. Kutch, Rajkot city, and Valsad reported two cases, while Bharuch, Jamnagar, Junagadh city, Navsari, Rajkot rural, and Tapi reported one case.

More than 4.25 lakh vaccines were administered in the state in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 7.57 crore. The number of fully vaccinated persons touched 3.05 crore, while 4.52 crore people have received at least one dose.

In an attempt to add pace to the vaccination drive, the state government today announced an intensive door-to-door vaccination campaign.

“We will form 75 teams in every district, which will cover 75 villages every day. There are 10 lakh people who have not yet taken the second dose of the vaccine despite being eligible. The drive will ensure everyone is fully vaccinated at the earliest,” state government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani told reporters
