The rising number of Covid-19 cases has caused tension to Vadodara officials, who recorded 62 active cases on Monday and another 53 people in home quarantine – those who had close contact with the positive cases.
Despite the fact that the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) recorded four new Covid-positive cases on Monday, one of which was from the Vadodara district region, the city has observed an increase since the week before Diwali festivities. On October 22, the city had 11 active cases, 10 of which were stable and one of which required oxygen support.
On Monday, 59 stable cases had been reported, with two patients on O2 support and one on ventilation. There were a total of 2,574 samples analysed.
Officials said that while the pandemic was under control, people should exercise caution.
“The instances that have been reported are largely of travellers and their contacts,” Vadodara Medical Officer for Health Dr Devesh Patel said. We also conducted some random tests and conducted contact tracing. The virus is under control and the symptoms are milder, but individuals should be wary. This year, unlike last year, when the epidemic spiked after the holidays, the rate at which cases are reported is far slower. In October, we had three days with no positive cases and daily cases in the single digits, which was not the case at the same time last year… However, it is impossible to predict how the infection will emerge.”
Vadodara rural has the most positive instances with 26,776 thus far, followed by the four zones under the VMC’s control. Since the pandemic began, the VMC has recorded 72,187 cases and 623 audited Covid-19 deaths.
Apart from Vadodara, Junagadh has seen a little increase in cases this month, with Covid-19 instances reported every day since November 1 and a total of 28 cases in a week. In October, the district recorded 27 instances.
