TCI Express, an express logistics company, plans to begin using drones for deliveries by the end of the current fiscal year, according to a top company executive.
Managing Director of TCI Express (MD) Chander Agarwal told PTI that the company had recently completed its initial trials.
Medicines and other urgent/immediate delivery goods weighing 5-10 kgs were delivered to consumers in Ahmedabad trials, he said.
“TCI Express has been continuously implementing and investing in cutting-edge technologies in order to provide consumers with long-term value. By the end of this fiscal year, we hope to start adopting the express drone delivery concept “According to Agarwal.
Without sharing any investment amount, the MD said the company has already defined a corpus for this pilot project which will be utilised towards setting up infrastructure.
He added that more trials for a higher weight category would be undertaken soon, also The trials were conducted in collaboration with a startup and made-in-India drones were employed during the trials but he won’t mention further information.
“TCI Express has become India’s first express logistics company to conduct drone delivery trials,” according to Agarwal.
“Express drone delivery is the future,” he added, “helping to minimise costs, reduce delivery times, particularly for urgent goods, and drive efficiency while optimising human resources and limiting reliance on road transport.”
