According to a Commerce Ministry report released on Monday, Gujarat has maintained the top spot on the logistics index chart, an indicator of the effectiveness of logistical services required for increasing exports and economic growth.
Gujarat was first out of 21 states, followed by Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra in that order.
The LEADS (Logistics Ease Across Different States) 2021 report, launched on Monday by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, will aid in identifying problem areas in the sector and developing policy measures to address them.
The index aims to increase the focus on improving logistics performance across states, which is important for enhancing commerce and lowering transaction costs in the country. Jammu and Kashmir topped the list of northeastern states and Himalayan union territories.
Delhi is the most popular of the Union Territories. In 2018, the first logistics report was published. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no ranking was issued last year.
