On the eve of Diwali, road accidents increased in the state. On Kali Chaudash (November 3), Gujarat saw 571 road accident victims brought to hospitals across the state, compared to an average of 381 accidents.
This is a whopping 49.87% rise in road accidents.
Among other major problems, cardiac ailments and breathing problems also saw a rise in the state a day before Diwali.
Against 215 average patients, there were 221 patients who were rushed by GVK-EMRI ambulance to hospitals after they complained of breathing problems. Officials say this is expected to rise during the festive season.
Similarly, there was a slight rise in cardiac ailments where, against 147 on a normal day, 151 calls were received by the emergency service on Wednesday.
The number of physicals assaults rose from average 96 to 116 on Wednesday.
The number of fall injuries rose from the average 135 to 143 and burns rose from 7 to 11 on Diwali eve.
Dr Jayesh P Sachde, HoD of Burns and Plastic surgery at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, said while there were minor cases at the hospital on Wednesday, a greater number of patients are expected on Diwali and the two days after the festival.
Further, there was also a slight rise recorded in sexual assaults and animal attacks.
Sola Civil gets full-time Superintendent
Two days before Diwali, GMERS Sola Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad finally got a full-time Medical Superintendent after one and half years of running with an in-charge head.
Dr Deepika Singhal, HOD of Ophthalmology Department, was appointed Medical Superintendent on November 2 by the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS).
