Small Town kid from Gujarat, Hrutul Chhag, added to the delight of celebrations by getting an All India Rank of 5 with a score of 715 out of 720 checks in NEET-Under Graduate outcomes.
Chhag hails from Kodinar in Gir-Somnath district and is among the three students from Gujarat who figured in the top 100 (AIR) students in NEET-UG exam.
The other two students are Shlok Soni, who scored 705 marks and AIR 60, and Prasham Shah who got AIR 100. Seven students from the state secured a spot in top 500 in the NEET-UG examination, the result of which was announced on Monday.
Chhag comes from a middle-class family. His father runs a Kirana shop in Kodinar. The young boy shifted to Rajkot to study for NEET-UG. “Nobody in our family is a doctor. But I had wished to pursue medicine since childhood. With AIR 5, I expect to get into AIIMS Delhi. After MBBS, I plan to become a neuro-surgeon,” he told Mirror. He lives in a joint family and financial support from his uncles helped him pursue NEET-UG in Rajkot. He said he focused mainly on NCERT and learned from coaching material for his NEET preparation.
Ankleshwar student Shlok shifted to Ahmedabad to study for NEET-UG when he was in Class 8. “As questions used to be asked from NCERT textbooks, I focused on reading from it. I studied for 8-10 hours a day. I wanted to study at AIIMS, but with the AIR 60 it might be difficult. If not, I will got to the second best college – Maulana Azad Medical College- Delhi,” he said.
Prasham, who scored 705 marks and secured AIR 100, is from Ahmedabad and has taken inspiration from his parents. His father is an ENT surgeon and mother a pathologist. “After coaching, I studied by myself for about six hours a day. In the pandemic, I could devote more time to study as education was done online and we didn’t have to go to college,” he said.
