A 2.36km elevated corridor between the Gota flyover and the Science City flyover on SG Road, built at a cost of Rs 170 crore, was inaugurated on Monday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
With the 1.48km long flyover from Thaltej to Sola bridge already active since June 27 of this year, a total of 4.18km long flyover became operational on Monday, connecting the Gota flyover to the Sola Science City flyover.
The state government plans to spend Rs 913 crore in converting the 44km national highway from Sarkhej in Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar city and Chiloda (in Gandhinagar district) to a six-lane road with service roads on both sides.
Seven of the total 13 flyovers to be built as part of the project were already operational. With its opening on Monday, the elevated corridor becomes the seventh to be operational. The remaining five flyovers are under construction.
“The elevated corridor will directly benefit commuters using the SG (Sarkhej-Gandhinagar) highway, which falls under Shah’s parliamentary constituency of Gandhinagar, by connecting it to four important road junctions, namely Sola Bhagwat, Kargil Petrol Pump, Janata Nagar, and Zydus,” the state chief minister’s office stated in a release.
The hospital will benefit as it will be immediately connected to it from National Highway No. 147 via this elevated corridor, according to the report.
After inaugurating an overbridge in Ahmedabad, Shah went to the Swaminarayan Temple in Botad’s Barvala village, where he revealed a 36-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva placed in the holy premises. On the temple grounds, he then launched the 30th edition of the ‘Satsang Shivir,’ for which numerous Swaminarayan sect followers gathered inside a big dome erected there.
Shah then headed to the district’s Salangpur village to pray at the famous Lord Hanuman temple. After paying his respects to Lord Swaminarayan, he went to a local Swaminarayan temple and met with spiritual leaders of the community.
