Ahmedabad: A flyover bridge, between the flyover bridges at Gota and Science City, on Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad was opened for the public on Monday.
Union home minister Amit Shah dedicated the 2.36-km flyover in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries.
Built at a cost of Rs. 170 crore, the elevated corridor will allow vehicles to avoid the traffic junctions at Sola Bhagwat, Kargil petrol pump, Janta Nagar, and Zydus hospital on one of the busiest road junctions in the city.
The opening of the new flyover will lead to a significant easing of traffic congestion and benefit thousands of people who come to places like Gujarat High Court and the Sola civil hospital. The new elevated corridor will also further reduce the travel time between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
The 1.48 km flyover from Thaltej to Sola railway bridge has been operational since June. The dedication of the 2.36 km flyover results in 4.18 km of continuous elevated corridor becoming operational.
It is noteworthy that the state government plans to complete the six-laning of the 44-km Sarkhej-Gandhinagar-Chiloda stretch of national highway no. 147 at a cost of Rs. 913 crore. Service roads are also being developed on both sides of the road. Of the proposed 13 flyovers on the 44-km stretch, eight have already been opened for the public, while five more are under construction.
