According to reports, the bridge will be closed to all large vehicles from October 30 to November 1. One of the two lanes, however, will be open to light vehicles.
Starting tomorrow, October 30, the 50-year-old Versova Creek Bridge will be partially closed for repairs for three days. Commuters on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway would encounter traffic jams as a result of this.
Heavy vehicles, like as multi-axle trucks, buses, and other vehicles, will need to take the Ghodbunder Road to the Mumbra-Kharegaon toll plaza in Gujarat. Heavy vehicles can also go from Thane to Palghar via Mumbra-Kharegaon Tolnaka – Mankoli-Bhiwandi Wada-Manori, Mumbra-Kharegaon Tolnaka-Mankoli-Bhiwandi-River Naka Ambadi-Vajreshwari-Ganeshpuri-Shirsat, Mumbra-Kharegaon Tolnaka Manko-Vasai-Virar will go to the desired place through Chinchoti.
The bridge was supposed to be restored in mid-September, but the work was postponed due to traffic congestion in Thane caused by potholes. It is closed for a few days per year for maintenance.
According to figures from the National Highways Authority of India, around 50,000 vehicles use it daily.
The bridge was first restored in May 2017 and is now inspected on a regular basis for future wear and tear. The bridge undergone repairs in March 2020 and was closed to vehicles for a few hours.
