Ahmedabad: Even as Covid-19 cases continue to decline in Ahmedabad and other cities in Gujarat, the Valsad district in south Gujarat accounted for more than one-fourth of the new cases in the state in the last seven days.
As per health department data, Gujarat reported 135 Covid-19 cases between October 19 and 25, of which Valsad accounted for 35 or nearly 28% of the cases. The district reported as many cases as the state’s two largest cities Ahmedabad (19) and Surat (17), combined in this period. On six out of seven days in this period, Valsad reported the highest number of cases in the state.
Unsurprisingly, Valsad has 46 active Covid-19 cases, the highest in the state, followed by Surat (26), Ahmedabad (25), and Navsari (20), which is another small district in south Gujarat. The number of active cases in the state, where an average of 17-18 cases is being reported for the past few days, is 159.
Valsad, which is home to the industrial cluster of Vapi, also accounted for both Covid-19 deaths that have been reported in the state during the week, the data shows.
“There is a small rise in daily cases in Valsad, but this is because of intensified tracing and testing drive. There is no cause of worry, but the local administration is ready to meet any situation,” a health department official told TLA.
Co-WIN data shows 6.76 lakh recipients in Valsad have received both doses of the vaccine, while 12.26 lakh have received at least one dose.
