Ahmedabad: Torrent Pharmaceuticals chairman Sudhir Mehta and Gujarat’s Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) commissioner Dr. HG Koshia have been nominated to the reconstituted Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB) by the union health ministry.
The Drugs Technical Advisory Board has been constituted by the central government under the Drug and Cosmetic Act, 1940, to advise the centre and states on technical matters arising out of the administration of the act and to carry out the other functions assigned to it by the act.
As nominated members, Sudhir Mehta and Dr. Koshia will have a term of three years.
The Director General of Health Services is the ex-officio chairman of the board, while The Drugs Controller is the ex-officio member secretary. They are among the eight appointed members in the 18-member board.
Five members have been nominated to the board, while five others are elected members, as per a ministry of health and family welfare notification dated October 18.
Dr. JA Jayalal, president of the Indian Medical Association, and Dr. TV Narayana, president of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association, are among the elected members of the board.
The government analyst at Food & Drugs Laboratory in Vadodara, Gujarat, is among the nominated members, the notification adds.
