Ahmedabad: Gujarat, the home state of Prime minister Narendra Modi, is celebrating the 100-crore Covid-19 vaccination milestone touched by the country on Thursday.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited an urban health centre in sector 2 of Gandhinagar and offered sweets to healthcare workers for their tireless efforts and contribution in making the vaccination drive a big success. Patel also interacted with vaccine recipients and urged them to encourage more people to get vaccinated.
The Gujarat government said in a statement the state accounts for over 6.7% of the total vaccines administered in the country, and has played an important role in the 100 crore milestone.
As of 10 am on Thursday, more than 6.76 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the state, which includes 2.35 crore beneficiaries who have received both doses, and 4.41 crore people who have received at least one dose.
With 6.86 lakh doses per million population, Gujarat ranks among the leading states. Moreover, 100% vaccination has been recorded in 15,436 villages, i.e. all eligible people above the age of 18 have been given at least one dose of the vaccine in these villages.
State health minister Rushikesh Patel told media-persons that 100% vaccination coverage has been achieved in three municipal corporations and four districts.
“We want to ensure 100% of the eligible population receives both vaccine doses in the very near future,” he said.
