Ahmedabad: Following the COVID-19 pandemic situation in Gujarat, the state has given the green light to Eid-e-Milad celebrations.
The festival will be celebrated on Tuesday to mark the birth anniversary of the last prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad.
A total of 400 people can take part in a procession if it moves within a locality, colony or street and does not go out of that area, the government said.
However, not more than 15 people can gather in the procession if it goes out of the area.
As per guidelines issued by the state Home Department on Sunday, not more than one vehicle could participate in a procession.
The processions are allowed only during the day hours in view of the night curfew in force in eight cities of the state.
The eight cities where coronavirus-induced night curfew will remain imposed till November 10 include Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh and Bhavnagar.
The processions and celebration of the festival will have to be organised with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines in terms of the use of masks, sanitisers and social distancing, a government notification said.
“Eid-e-Milad will be celebrated on October 19. The government has taken the decision in view of applications received (by the state home department) requesting permissions to take out processions and organise other programmes on the day,” said the circular issued by the home department.
