Ahmedabad: Cotton godown on Piplaj-Pirana road in Ahmedabad caught fire due to heat and inflammable materials in the building. Officials suspect the fire may have been caused by spontaneous combustion.
The blaze was reported to the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services around 12 noon on October 18. It took about two hours for five teams of firefighters to douse the main fire. However, cooling operations were still underway in the evening and would possibly go on till night, said Divisional Fire Officer (DO) Kaizad Dastoor.
The godown was one of three belonging to Vinod Fabrics and contained 400 tonnes of cotton tied up in bales.
The factory is said to have complete firefighting systems which made it easier for firefighters to douse the blaze.
There were no injuries or casualties in the incident.
