Ahmedabad: Gujarat reported 34 Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours ending on Thursday evening, the highest daily spike in nearly three months.
According to state health department data, the number of daily cases reported on Thursday is the highest since July 24, when the state had reported 39 cases. Since then, cases have been declining steadily and even fell to single-digit on certain days, but the cases have been on an upswing in the past few days.
The state recorded 18 cases on October 10, 21 on October 11, 22 on October 12, 26 on October 13, and 34 on October 14.
The spike in Covid-19 cases coincides with the Navratri festivities, which the state government had allowed with certain restrictions.
Ahmedabad city and Valsad reported seven cases each, followed by Surat city with five cases, Surat rural with four cases, Vadodara city three cases, two each in Junagadh, Kutch, and Narmada, and one case in Mehsana and Navsari. No Covid-19 related death has been reported in the state since October 10, the health department data shows.
According to Co-WIN data, 6.63 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the state. This includes 2.25 crore people who have received both doses and 4.38 crore people who have received at least one dose. Gujarat is third in terms of vaccine doses administered and trails only Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, which have administered 11.77 crore and 9.07 crore doses, respectively.
