Ahmedabad: An explosion of a cooking gas cylinder caused fire to rage through a three-storey building in Ahmedabad’s old city. On the scene, over six fire departments were battling the blaze that had engulfed the entire second and third floors of the engraving and embedding unit.
Officials of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES) said that the congested area of Doshiwala no pol in Kalupur area of the city made it difficult to access the building and the flaming inferno inside it.
While more than 13 persons had been evacuated from the premises said to house the PK Das Jewellers and Mrutunjaydas Tulsidas Soni units, one person, Mansuri Parohi, aged 45 years, had suffered serious burn injuries and was admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Disturbingly, fire officials found a total of 21 residential use LPG gas cylinders on the premises, one which one had exploded, setting off the fire. In-charge Chief Fire Officer Rajesh Bhatt said the building was very old and had become very risky owing to the explosion and the fire.
However, firefighters were attempting to douse the fire which was still raging on the two top floors at the time of going to the press.
