Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government has extended the night curfew imposed in Ahmedabad and seven other cities till November 10, a notification by the state home department said.
The state government had announced a curfew in eight cities from 12:00 am to 6:00 am until October 10. Earlier, the curfew began at 11:00 pm, but the time was extended till 12:00 in the night due to the Navratri festival.
In a notification on Friday evening, the state government said the curfew has been extended till November 10, which essentially means that Diwali celebrations will also take place under the night curfew restrictions.
“Following a review of the Covid-19 situation, the curfew has been extended till November 10,” the notification said.
Besides Ahmedabad, the night curfew is in force in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar.
The home department also extended the restrictions on gatherings at events, attendance at marriages, funerals, etc., until November 10.
Businesses have been demanding further easing of restrictions in view of improvement in the pandemic situation and the festival season, but they will have to wait longer.
Daily Covid-19 cases in the state have fallen to around 20 over the last few weeks, even as vaccination has picked up pace. Earlier this week, Gujarat became only the third state that has fully vaccinated 2 crore or more people, even as 4.30 crore people have received at least one dose.
