Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel dedicated the 48-km six-lane Tarapur-Vasad stretch of State Highway – 8 in the presence of Roads and Buildings Minister Purnesh Modi on Thursday afternoon.
The 48-km new road cuts the travel time between Tarapur and Vasad in central Gujarat from 120 minutes to just 35 minutes. It is the shortest road route that connects South Gujarat and Saurashtra, and according to the state government, around 70,000 people commute on the road per day. It has been built by Gujarat-based RKC Infrabuilt at a cost of Rs. 1,005 crore.
“Gujarat has established an extensive and well-developed air, rail, or road connectivity infrastructure. High-quality roads have been developed in cities and villages. The difference in road quality and network is clearly visible when we travel outside Gujarat or when people from other states come here,” he said on the occasion.
The 48-km stretch has 18 flyovers and 33 km service roads. It includes 24 underpasses, the first for a state highway in Gujarat, and also comprises 38 bus stops in addition to four truck lay-by. It also includes nearly 1.30 lakh sq mt of reinforced earth wall, the first for a state highway in the state, and
1,400 streetlights.
Patel also inaugurated a bridge on Padmavati river in Mehsana, and performed ground breaking ceremony of works related to four-laying of the 31-km road from Vithlapur to Lakhtar, a flyover project in Gandhidham, among other works on Thursday. The cost of these projects is nearly Rs. 207 crore.
