Ahmedabad: Presently, anticipate that cops should look for proof of your inoculation status at the traffic intersections. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has held hands with Ahmedabad Police to move forward its zero-resilience approach against immunization reluctance, sources told Mirror.
AMC authorities and senior police officials are in the process of drawing up the plan which is likely to be implemented in the next couple of days. Officials from both the departments will be stationed at crossroads across the city and randomly check vaccine certificates of commuters. Those unable to provide the same will be taken to the nearest vaccination centre for the dose.
On Tuesday, the AMC extended its no-vaccine-no-entry policy to even private spaces like shopping malls, clubs, private offices, super markets and others. Those seeking to access these facilities will now have to get at least the first dose.
Besides, those who have crossed the 84-day period after the first dose but are yet to take the second dose will also be denied entry to the private premises. Earlier, the policy was restricted to only public spaces; unvaccinated citizens were denied access to BRTS, AMTS buses, gyms, swimming pools, sports complexes, city civic buildings and others.
An AMC official on the condition of anonymity said, “The AMC wants maximum number of people to get vaccinated. We have a project in the pipeline as part of which the AMC and the police department will randomly check vaccine certificates of people. Those who have not taken a single dose will be taken to the nearest vaccination centre. Consultation is on for the implementation of the project.”
Till now the AMC has inoculated a total of 66, 84,515 people with the Covid-19 vaccine where 44,79,779 people have been inoculated with the first dose and 22,04,736 with the second. AMC wants to ensure 100% citizens above 18 years of age get at least the first dose of vaccine at the earliest.
More responsibility for society chairman
The AMC will soon be appointing chairman/secretary of gated communities as Covid coordinators. A decision is expected in the next two days, said sources. As per the plan, only visitors who have taken the vaccine will be allowed to enter the societies. It will be the responsibility of the Covid coordinators to ensure this policy is implemented strictly.
More than 100 people yet to take jabs? Call AMC
If your residential society/commercial space has more than 100 people who are yet to be administered the vaccine, you can
make a written request to the zonal deputy health officer. The AMC officials will come down to these places and conduct special vaccination camps.
