Ahmedabad: In yet another significant milestone, more than 2 crore people in Gujarat are now fully vaccinated for Covid-19, placing Gujarat among the few states that have touched the figure so far, according to official data.
The state crossed the landmark of administering the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to 2 crore people on Wednesday afternoon, with the figure at 2.01 crore at 4:00 pm. The total number of people eligible to receive the vaccine in the state is 4.93 crore, according to state health department data, which means more than 40% have now received both doses.
Gujarat began the Covid-19 vaccination drive on January 16 and has so far administered 6.28 crore doses, the fourth highest in the country after Uttar Pradesh (11.20 crore), Maharashtra (8.50 crore), and Madhya Pradesh (6.45 crore), Co-WIN data shows.
However, Gujarat is only the third state where at least 2 crore recipients have received both doses. Maharashtra leads as far as fully vaccinated people are concerned, having administered both doses to 2.57 crore people, followed by Uttar Pradesh which is home to 2.28 crore fully vaccinated people. Madhya Pradesh has fully vaccinated 1.57 crore people.
Nationally, more than 92.46 crore people have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 25.33 crore have received both doses. The pace of vaccination has picked up in recent weeks as more than 22 crore vaccine doses have been administered nationally in the past month, according to health ministry data.
Gujarat had crossed the 6 crore cumulative vaccination mark on September 27, but the pace of vaccination has dropped slightly after that. The state reported 23 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday and one death. This was the first Covid-19 related death in the state in more than a month.
