Ahmedabad: Senior Congress Leader and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan Sachin Pilot demanded a test by the Supreme Court into the DRI capture of 3,000 kg of heroin worth Rs. 20,000 crore from the Mundra Port in Gujarat. He additionally said that the BJP government in Gujarat is attempting to smother the issue.
Pilot was on a one-day visit to Mumbai and addressed the media at the city Congress headquarters. Addressing the seizure of drugs in Gujarat, he said that there was a danger to national security.
“It is being told to us that a company in Visakhapatnam had ordered these drugs. But why would a company situated there order it in the Mundra port? They would seek delivery in Chennai. The Gujarat government must be made answerable. This is an anti-national activity of infecting the youth with poison,” said Mr. Pilot.
Pilot alleged that this was the tip of an iceberg and earlier drugs worth thousands of crores were brought into the country. He demanded that an independent, unbiased probe should be conducted as it is an issue that will affect future generations and national security.
The Congress Leader states that the government wants to suppress the case. There is no firm action being taken. He said, “The government wants to suppress the case to save

their own government. There is no firm action taken even after a huge cache was caught. A local court had directed DRI for strict action and no action seems to have been taken.”
To a question on the drug bust by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a cruise liner, where high-profile youngsters including son of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan have been arrested, Mr. Pilot said the law should take its own course.
Later in the day, Pilot along with Maharashtra Congress leaders staged a protest against the Uttar Pradesh government over the deaths of farmers allegedly after they were run over by a Union Minister’s son’s car. He slammed the BJP-led U.P. government for detaining party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi who was on her way to meet the families of the deceased farmers.
“Is it a crime to meet the family of the deceased? Why is the State government so scared of her? The BJP is trying to eliminate farmers from India. But these farmers have decided to counter the BJP and our party will stand with them.”
